Renewal Date

Renewal Date

A couple of years ago, I purchased a subscription to a particular online software (no names will be mentioned). I paid the fee for a year and pretty much forgot about it for the next eleven months.

Then I received a notice that my subscription was about to expire and that I needed to renew it. At that time, however, I did not have the money to renew it. The renewal date came and went without my being able to renew.

Then I started getting a notice that my subscription had expired and that if I did not renew by such-and-such a date, “many features will become unavailable.”

I decided to let that date come and go without renewing. I then received a notice that my subscription had expired and that if I did not renew by a later date, “many features will become unavailable.”

To make a long story short, I have still not renewed and, currently have until mid-March to do so before “many features will become unavailable.”

My question is this: why would I pay them another $100 to use their program if the date when “many features will become unavailable” keeps getting later and later?

Peter dealt with a similar, but much more important, question in 2 Peter 3. People were asking about Jesus’ return and scoffing about it. He answers them by citing examples in the past (like the creation and the flood) and lets them know that time means nothing to the Lord.

Peter also tells them that Jesus had not returned yet because of God’s patience, wanting everyone to repent. Peter also reminds them of what Jesus said, that “. . . the day of the Lord will come like a thief . . .” and, thus, we ought to live holy and godly lives.

God already knows when Jesus will return. He has not and will not change the date. When it happens, there will not be a warning. We will not be given another chance to “renew” when it does. Put simply this earth and its “many features will become unavailable.” Are you ready for that day?
